Wednesday Cafe: Tidbits Edition!
In which we give you all of our best bites.
Hey inbox pals! Sometimes you go to a tapas restaurant because you want a bunch of tiny plates of delicious food instead of one big big big bowl of delicious saucy cheesy pasta with a piece of garlic bread perched on top. At any rate, this week we’ve got a bunch of zesty little recommendations and links for those of you with refined palates.
Life Recommendations
These are not life hacks, because I wouldn’t presume that I could tangentially improve your lives with my recommendations. But I do think adopting these habits could bring you joy or at least make you feel like you’re adulting at a slightly higher level.
What brings me joy? Drinking out of a straw, preferably from a tumbler with a straw. My amazing friend bought me a The Little Mermaid tumbler from Disneyland that says, “The Girl Who Has Everything,” and yes, I am the Girl Who Has Everything. These tumblers are great, especially if you work in front of the computer all day long like I do, because you can absent-mindedly suck on water all day long, or until you’ve emptied the vessel, without using your hands.
Lotion your feet. You should lotion your whole body, but you’re probably neglecting your feet. I often forget to lotion my feet, but when I remember, they feel great! I’ve never understood why there’s a seemingly ubiquitous aversion to feet, but I’m guessing it’s because most people don’t remember to take care of their kickers. While you’re down there, give your arches a good rubbing too, they deserve it after literally carrying your weight all day.
Hair oil is a great way to add some scent-wearing to your life without going as far as wearing perfume, and you’ll have beautiful, shiny locks. Hair oils also have more subtle fragrances that don’t contain musk. You can also wear perfume too, if that’s your jam.
In fact, introduce more scents into your life. It doesn’t have to be on your body! Spray your pillow with some lavender or add a few drops of cedarwood oil to the diffuser. Light a scented candle.
Lastly, dress up. This may depend on where you live and work. Some people feel stressed about dressing up and wish they could dress down. But typically, despite workplace dress requirements, we’re often not really dressing up. But you know what? Go ahead and wear that sexy cocktail dress with the killer stilettos, even if you’re just going to the taco truck. Men, break out your special blazer and that jazzy pocket square, I promise I’ll notice and appreciate it! Why, of course a floor-length gown is totally appropriate for a trip to the post office! I don’t want to live in a world where people can’t dress to the nines just to dress to the nines.
If you do take my advice and follow these life recommendations, please let me know how much better your life is now. ~ Stacy
SENTENCES
I don't have any paragraphs in my brain today so here are some sentences:
My life has been made so much easier by the site Eat Your Books, which indexes all the cookbooks you own and cooking blogs you read and it lets you search all of them at once.
I just read the new book in the Wayward Children series which was delightful and soul-nourishing as always.
My latest YouTube binges are lo-fi film essayist Yhara Zayd and queer / feminist / geek essayist Rowan Ellis, whose interests intersect in a pair of great videos examining the backlash against Jennifer's Body.
Friendship ended with Delicious World, now Inbento is my best friend.
Psyche magazine not only has a beautiful website, but their articles are full of inspiration and actionable ideas.
I'd like to announce that CARROT STICKS ARE BETTER THAN CHIPS and I LOVE TO EAT THEM.
The science-backed guided meditation app Healthy Minds is now completely free, so you can use it to help your brain get its paragraphs back. ~ Tracy
